Visions of Prayer
by Peter Kentley

The Horse

In February 1997 the writer had a vision of a magnificently groomed brown horse, tall and strong and extremely responsive. The command from heaven was: "get up and ride". Immediately it was obvious that the horse gave great advantage in spiritual warfare, as the rider is now elevated in spirit by this magnificent animal...

bullet

it is so much easier to deal with sin and spiritual opposition when they are beneath the hooves of such a magnificent animal;

bullet

it is so much easier to use the sword of the Spirit in Spiritual warfare when mounted and supported by the provision of God.

The name of this horse is "faith" ~ get up and ride. Faith is a living thing, able to carry us over the treachery and deception and the works of the enemy. We need this advantage!

In this vision we are called to be servants... yet also those who are out front in the rising tide of the army of God. Godís leaders are servants called to point the way and to inspire courage and obedience. To go forward into the battle setting a faithful example as:

bullet

those who are trained and know how to use their spiritual weapons (2 Cor 6:7, 2 Cor 10:4, Eph 6:10-18);

bullet

those who follow orders because they know their Commander with implicit trust;

bullet

those who donít make excuses or argue, but can be trusted to get on with the task at hand;

bullet

those who inspire others to follow their Commander.

bullet These people never retreat.

Their armour is gleaming, they are purposeful and moving with clear direction. They are being led of God and pointing the way to where Jesus is working.

This is who we are, because we are called to be such. Not because of merit but because we are amongst those who are "responding to God with a whole heart". Not those calling their own tune, but listening and doing according to the instructions of the Holy Spirit.

Zech 1:7-10 confirmed this vision:

"During the night I had a vision - and there before me was a man riding a red horse! He was standing among the myrtle trees in a ravine. Behind him were red, brown and white horses. I asked, "What are these, my lord?" The angel who was talking with me answered, "I will show you what they are." Then the man standing among the myrtle trees explained, "They are the ones the LORD has sent to go throughout the earth."

Are not Christians on overseas duty sent throughout the earth? This vision calls thousands of aircrew and people traveling on business to function as prayer warriors, intercessors and encouragers of the purposes of God as they travel in their jobs.

The Captain

In this vision the writer found himself transported to the position of Captain of a troop during the American Civil War (strange vision for an Australian).

It was winter and the war was in abeyance. The troops were exhausted and enjoying respite on the grassy expanses of a low hill. They soldiers were lounging prostrate recovering from the exhaustion of previous warfare. For the moment the war was off and the troops were safe.

I remarked to my co-leader, "while things are quiet here, let's go and tour the area and have a look around".

As we walked down the hill, our attention was grabbed by this huge, deep and commanding voice of God:

bullet

"Where do you think you're going?"

bullet"Would you mind going back and looking at your troops?"

Woops. We turned around and went back to the soldiers. Then we saw their true state. They were dispirited, exhausted, demoralised and drained of energy. Their weapons were in disarray. Their rifles were thrown down and rusting. Their uniforms torn and disheveled. Their purpose and convictions in relapse.

We had a job to do. We had to invest in the troops to get them ready for the coming battle. The future would depend on the preparation. Now was the time to train and get ready.

The Knight

In December 2002 another vision of spiritual warfare was received. This time it was a medieval scene in a castle. It was early evening and a Knight appeared to swanker into a large meeting room in the castle where the court was gathered.

In fact the knight was surveying the room taking in detail those present, as he lounged back on a sofa. He brushed his sword to his side, but it was instantly available. He know there were friend and foe alike at this gathering.

His appearance was purposeful and authoritative. His stature was relaxed. His readiness for defense instant.

His confidence in his weapons was without doubt. He had to be able to use them effectively - as any fight would be for survival. He was trained and prepared. Generous of heart and kind, but not to be messed with!

This is a great picture of the spiritual warrior. Trained, alert, skilled in the use of the weapons of their warfare - capable and ready in the service of the Lord.

Prayer Production

In this vision the question of apparently "unanswered prayer" was addressed. There was a production line in heaven and the objects of prayer were moving down the line under God's creative care.

The energy keeping the line moving was the prayer of the saints. As we pray, the object of our hearts, on the production line are energised and keep moving down the towards completion.

We may not know the timing of the production run, but our prayers are energy God uses in keeping the production line moving. This is all of God, because only God grants the "spirit of prayer" to his people in the first place.

This vision provides insight into how God has devised a process that keeps his people in the loop of his plans and purposes.

There will be other specific jobs that need doing on the production line - such as working with Jesus to set people free who are bound up during production. Also watchman are needed to warn of any attacks of the enemy.
